A church banner is only as powerful as its design. Here are 7 principles that will make your church banners impossible to miss.
Choose ONE primary message. A banner is not a flyer — viewers have seconds to absorb it. "REVIVAL — April 5-7 — New Hope Church" beats five competing messages every time.
Best combinations: white on dark purple/navy/black, gold on deep purple, black on yellow/white. Avoid low-contrast combos like yellow on white or red on dark blue.
One heading font (bold, attention-grabbing like Cinzel or Trajan) + one body font (clean, readable like Inter or Open Sans). No more.
For every 10 feet of viewing distance, you need at least 1 inch of letter height. Banner seen from 40 feet? Main text should be at least 4 inches tall. When in doubt, go bigger.
Empty space makes your key message stand out more. Aim to use no more than 60-70% of the banner's surface area for content. Resist the urge to fill every inch.
One strong symbol — a cross, dove, or praying hands — is more powerful than five competing images. Position it to reinforce the message, not compete with it.
What do you want people to do? Visit? Attend? Call? Include your website URL, phone number, or event date — large enough to read from a moving car.
